About Purple Laura
Hello I’m Laura! I love to cook and especially love to bake. I started baking from an early age with my Grans
and Mum. Both Grans were avid preserve makers as well and I’m the result!
There was always homemade marmalade at my Granny Klara’s house. She would preserve anything that moved at one stage! Granny Jane always made cakes when we visited. She introduced me to homemade quince jelly and even showed me how to make marmalade at a very young age.
My mum would always bake us a birthday cake - I still make her special chocolate cake-today! Every Christmas we had a mince pie making day! From being her helper I quickly took over, as she didn’t enjoy and I love it. I’ve baked treats and cakes for all my family ever since.
It was a twist of fate that made me set up a small business. I must thank Jo Money (organiser of the Congleton Food and Drink Festival and general fab person). She gave me an opportunity to sell cakes and bring some of my jams and chutneys to the first festival. I loved it and decided to try to sell my wares at farmers' markets.
So today, from my home kitchen, I make a varying range of jams, chutneys and other random preserves using local produce (usually excess from people’s gardens). I bake whatever takes my fancy for sale at markets, farm shops and to order.
People to thank!
Peter Campbell - Jar carrier, stall helper, fruit and vegetable chopper; basically general helper in anything I need! Couldn’t do it without him!
Judy Campbell - For the use of the kitchen, putting up with me and being great support!
Malcolm Powell - Website maker extraordinaire! Always turns up to support me.
Rest of family and friends - You know who you are - thank for all your support and encouragement!
